Space Zoo Patrol – Future Robotics

  1. What is this technology called?

Humanoid Robotics

  1. What does it do?

Humanoid robots can lift heavy objects and go into dangerous places (like nuclear reactors or collapsed buildings) instead of people. Versions of this can even be used to help people move.

  1. How does it work?

Usually, humanoid robots are battery operated or connected to an electric tether in order to power lots of motors and actuators (a mechanical rod that is pushed by the motor which in turn pushes an arm, leg, or wheel) which are used to help the robot move.

  1. How is it better than the older technology?

This is relatively new technology that continues to improve. Traditional robots are fixed in place and often have to be kept away from people. These robots are meant to work with people.

  1. What classes should I take in school to work on this?

Science and math at an early age, and mechanical and electrical engineering later.
